A drone attack on an airfield in Russia’s Kursk region set fire to an oil storage tank, a local governor said on December 6. Kursk governor Roman Starovoyt said that there were no casualties and local authorities were trying to contain the fire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that emergency shutdowns were required to stabilise the system after the attacks. The Russian Defence Ministry claims that it killed over 70 Ukrainian troops on December 5. Kyiv also said that Russian forces shelled the Nikipol district at least 50 times on December 5. Ukrainian officials claim that the Russian military is not using Iranian drones because they are not designed to be used in winter. Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin has warned the US against designating his group as a terrorist organisation. Russian military bloggers are expressing “anger” about their country’s “inability” to stop Ukraine from striking airbases inside Russia.
