Press freedom in the United States under fire

Is reporting from the White House a right or a privilege? When Donald Trump moved back into the White House in January, one of his first acts was signing executive order 14172, renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. The Associated Press refused to follow suit, highlighting that the name change is only officially acknowledged within the United States. The rest of the world still calls it the Gulf of Mexico, and that is how it remains in the AP style guide, a book used by countless news outlets around the world. As a result the White House took the unprecedented step of banning the AP from covering all White House events.
