Poland’s foreign minister, Radek Sikorski, believes Alexei Navalny’s death shows Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin will stop at nothing to kill his political opponents. “Navalny would have made a great leader of Russia, but now he will be an icon of Russian democrats,” he told DW at the Munich Security Conference. Sikorski also spoke about Russia’s threat to European security and the need to bolster NATO alliances following comments made by former US president and frontrunner for the Republican nomination Donald Trump who threatened to abandon military allies who fail to meet their defense spending commitments should he be re-elected in November’s presidential election.
