Photographic views of Victorian London in this fancy fête at Orleans house in Twickenham, London in June 1864. There is a drawing of the event in The Illustrated London News from June 11, 1864, I’m unclear if this was the date of the event or just the newspapers issue date. I find this collection interesting because it’s very rare to find this much coverage of a single event from this early era of photography, not to mention the high quality and general aesthetic appeal. I have brightened and enhanced all the images and focused on the subjects within. Photographs by Camille Silvy. The Orleans House was demolished in 1926. The background music is pieces by Burgmüller and Chopin played on an 1843 square grand piano by kikupainting
