Japan to Take on Threats From China, North Korea and Russia Japan was not always a peaceful country. It was not always averse to the idea of violence. It was not always a pacifist state. Japan in a post-World War era has emerged as a symbol of pacifism – a country that does not have the right to wage a war, a nation that does not even admit it has a military. All of that is fast changing. Japan exhausted all the fight it had in itself in the 20th century. That’s where Japanese pacifism stems from. But now, Japan has abandoned its pacifism, and the US is very happy about it.
