For decades, pop culture has been obsessed with black holes. That’s because black holes have been a confirmed phenomenon since the 1971 discovery of Cygnus X-1. However, even then, it was white holes that were totally mysterious and held the public’s imagination.Scientists have been searching for white holes since at least the 1990s, with some calculations indicating they could exist in theoretical physics models. But while a few tentative detections were made over the years, until now, no one had ever found positive evidence of their existence.That has finally changed.
