Israel said it has begun its widely expected ground offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon, following a build-up of tanks along the border. The army said the targets of Operation Northern Arrows — a number of villages in southern Lebanon — pose an immediate threat to residential communities in northern Israel. The military has also carried out more airstrikes, with blasts heard across the Lebanese capital Beirut very early on Tuesday.
