‘An Irish Christmas The Way It Was’ with John B. Keane, 1978
John B. Keane takes us to Kerry and reminds us of Christmas the way it was.
From his pub in Kerry, John B. Keane recounts stories of Christmas past and describes them as far less sophisticated than the Christmas of today. He describes how during his childhood there was more emphasis on the symbolic side of Christmas and less emphasis on materialism.
At a time when there were no modern day distractions like television and radio, they made their own entertainment. Keane describes his childhood memories of Christmas. He also gives an example of a shopping list for food for the Christmas festivities.
