Largest Air Raid
The sky was gray, and the clouds were thick enough to make visibility at high altitudes almost impossible. Even so, over 1,400 Allied aircraft were sent into battle to decimate the Germans at the Saint Michael salient. The heavy rain had turned the terrain muddy, giving way to a deep fog that made it extremely difficult for the American infantrymen to attack the German trenches. But like their fellow airmen, the ground troops charged into the enemy lines with all their might. Although the Germans did not know it yet, they were about to be pummeled by the largest air offensive of the entire war…
